Project description

Project Overview

FintabNg is a digital product aimed at simplifying how users in Nigeria access and purchase essential services like airtime, data, electricity tokens, and more — all within a single mobile app. The goal was to provide a seamless and intuitive platform that could meet users' recurring daily needs in one place.

Timeline

From explorations to final designs in 5 weeks while working with multiple projects at the same time

Process

This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.

Problem Statement

The Nigerian digital consumer landscape is fragmented — users often juggle multiple apps or platforms to perform everyday transactions like topping up airtime, buying data, or paying for electricity. This leads to inconvenience, wasted time, and poor user experience.
Our challenge was to consolidate these services into a single, user-friendly mobile experience.

Goals & Objectives

Create a seamless and intuitive mobile app interface for everyday digital transactions.

Ensure the app is accessible and easy to use for people of all tech skill levels.

Design a secure and frictionless user journey from onboarding to payment.

Provide a scalable structure to accommodate more service categories in the future.

Target Audience

Our primary users were urban Nigerian adults (ages 18–45) who are familiar with mobile banking or fintech services. They value convenience, speed, and trust in handling financial transactions digitally.

Challenges and Solution

My Design Process

User Research & Competitive Analysis

I conducted informal interviews and online surveys to understand users’ pain points with current digital service platforms. I also analyzed competitors like Opay, Palmpay, and Moniepoint to assess strengths, weaknesses, and design opportunities.
Insights gained:

Users wanted fewer steps to complete transactions.

Security and ease of use were critical trust factors.

Many users disliked the cluttered design of existing fintech apps.

User Flow & Wireframes

Using Miro, I mapped out a simple and logical user journey from onboarding to final payment. Then I created low-fidelity wireframes in Figma to define the structure of the core app flows.

UI Design

I applied a modern, clean design system with a familiar yet unique feel. I used calm tones with bright accent colors for CTAs to draw attention without overwhelming users.

Prototyping & Usability Testing

Clickable prototypes were tested with 5 users to validate ease of navigation, clarity of flows, and user trust. Feedback was used to improve the visibility of transaction summaries and enhance loading states during payments.

Results

The outcomes and achievements of the project.

Outcome & Impact

The prototype received positive feedback from users, especially around its ease of use and modern visual appeal.

The development team was able to implement the UI seamlessly due to clean handoffs and component-based design.

The client praised the scalability and consistency of the design, with plans to integrate more services in future iterations.

This project significantly strengthened my approach to balancing usability, trust, and aesthetics in fintech UI design.
